The annual Perseid meteor shower is expected to put on a good show this week for those willing to get up in the wee hours of the morning and wait patiently for the shooting stars.

In North America, the best time to watch will be between midnight to 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12, but late Tuesday night and also Wednesday night could prove fruitful, weather permitting.

The Perseids are always reliable, and sometimes rather spectacular. The only things that puts a damper on the August show are bad weather or bright moonlight. Unfortunately this week, as the Perseids reach their peak Tuesday and Wednesday nights, the moon will be high in the sky, outshining the fainter meteors

  8. I love looking at the sky ... especially when I'm out in the country camping. There's too much light where I live to see more than a handful of stars and meteor showers are out of the question. Thanks for sharing this information ;--)

  9. We're unfortunately having a bunch-o-weather at the moment - lots of thunder-boomies. So I'm pretty sure we dont' get the Perseids this year. Rats!

  41. I got up early....and been out twice now to take a gander...haven't seen anything yet. Of course, the moon is directly overhead and the neighbor's yard lights are on. That doesn't help either.

My Outdoor Wednesday is posted. Showing of the 'water' in our "backyard".

    Have a great day.

  47. I remember going out into the desert in California to watch the meteor showers and was well-rewarded for the effort. Away from the city lights, the show was spectacular!

  52. We have too many city lights and our lovely off shore marine layer that floats in each night to cool us off to see this. On occasion we have driven up into the mountains to see a meteor shower but my hubby is out of town on business and I'm getting ready for out-of-town guests so I'm going to miss this one. I love things like this so I'm kind of sad.

Thanks for being the ever great hostess!

    Happy Outdoor Wednesday!
